NASA's latest communications satellite arrives in orbit

Washington: NASA on Friday said its third and final in a series of next generation communications satellites has successfully been placed into orbit.

The Tracking and Data Relay Satellite-M (TDRS-M), launched aboard a United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket with a liftoff at 8:29 a.m. EDT from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station's Space Launch Complex 41.

"TDRS-M will expand the capabilities and extend the lifespan of the Space Network, allowing us to continue receiving and transmitting mission data well into the next decade," Littmann said.

TDRS-M's predecessors, TDRS-K and TDRS-L, also launched on Atlas V rockets from the same launch complex in January 2013 and January 2014, respectively

More than an hour and a half after launch, the TDRS-M spacecraft separated from the rocket's Centaur upper stage, heralding the end of the launch effort and the mission's beginning.

Following several months of calibration and testing, TDRS-M will be renamed TDRS-13, and it will be eligible to begin supporting NASA's Space Network.

Bofors case likely to make a comeback in Supreme Court

Speculation is rife that the politically sensitive Rs 64 crore Bofors pay-off case will come up for substantial hearing in the Supreme Court soon, amid a fresh media report suggesting a financial quid pro quo for the Rs 1,437 crore Howitzer gun deal in 1986.

BJP leader and advocate Ajay Kumar Agarwal, who had challenged the Delhi high court May 31, 2005 judgement quashing all charges against the Europe-based Hinduja brothers in the case, said the matter was listed in the weekly list earlier this month, but could not be taken up.

The CBI had alleged that certain public servants and private persons in India and abroad had entered into a criminal conspiracy between 1982 and 1987 in pursuance of which the offences of bribery, corruption, cheating and forgery were committed to the extent of Rs 64 crore in the contracts for the supply of Bofors guns.

The first charge sheet in the case was filed on October 22, 1999 against Chadda, Quattrocchi, then Defence Secretary S K Bhatnagar, Ardbo and the Bofors company. A supplementary charge sheet against Hinduja brothers was filed on October 9, 2000.

A special CBI court in Delhi On March 4, 2011, had discharged Quattrocchi from the case saying the country cannot afford to spend hard-earned money on his extradition which has already cost Rs 250 crore.

Quattrocchi, who fled from here on July 29-30, 1993, has never appeared before any court in India to face prosecution. He passed away on July 13, 2013. The other accused persons who have died are Bhatnagar, Chadda and Ardbo.

- हालांकि, तीसरी कार शहर के पूर्वी हिस्से तहरीर चौराहे में घुस गई। इसके बाद हमलावर ने आत्मघाती बम धमाके को अंजाम दिया।
- पुलिस ने कहा कि कार में हुए विस्फोट में 19 लोगों की मौत हो गई, जबकि 20 से ज्यादा लोग जख्मी हो गए।
- सरकारी टीवी ने कहा कि हमलावर रमजान की छुट्टी के बाद पहले कार्य दिवस पर भीड़भाड़ वाले इलाकों में विस्फोट करना चाहते थे। अभी तक किसी संगठन ने हमले की जिम्मेदारी नहीं ली है।

Moon's mantle may contain lots of water, satellite data shows

New Delhi: New satellite data reveals evidence of water on the lunar surface, contradicting the long belief that the Moon is a dry, inhospitable orb.

The new study finds that numerous volcanic deposits distributed across the surface of the Moon contain unusually high amounts of trapped water compared with surrounding terrains.

But that held assumption began to overturn in 2008 when scientists first traced amounts of water in some of the volcanic glass beads brought back to Earth from the Apollo 15 and 17 missions.

In 2011, study of tiny crystalline formations within those beads revealed that they actually contain similar amounts of water as some basalts on Earth. That suggests that the Moon`s mantle - parts of it, at least - contain as much water as Earth`s.

For the study, scientists used orbital spectrometers to measure the light that bounces off a planetary surface.

"By looking at which wavelengths of light are absorbed or reflected by the surface, scientists can get an idea of which minerals and other compounds are present," the researchers noted.

The research has been published in the journal Nature Geoscience.

राजद का आरोप-BJP की भाषा बोल रहा जदयू, जदयू का जवाब-नाशकाले विपरीत बुद्धि

पटना [जेएनएन]। राजद के राष्ट्रीय उपाध्यक्ष उपाध्यक्ष रघुवंश प्रसाद सिंह ने तीखे स्वर में जदयू के प्रवक्ताओं पर आरोप लगाया और कहा कि जदयू के प्रवक्ता गरिहंडा (गाली देना वाला) हैं और कहा कि उनकी नौकरी गाली देने की ही है। राजद ने जिन्हें ताज सौंपा, वह भी भाजपा की तरह बोलने लगे हैं।

रघुवंश ने शरद यादव को अनुभवी नेता बताया और कहा कि उनकी अपील माननी चाहिए। लालू परिवार पर संकट को रघुवंश ने सुल्तानी आपदा करार दिया और कहा कि देश में दो तरह की आपदाएं हैं। स्थानीय और सुल्तानी। राजद को सुल्तानी आपदा से लडऩा पड़ रहा है। सीबीआइ, ईडी एवं आइटी इसी तरह की आपदा है। तेजस्वी को निर्दोष बताते हुए रघुवंश ने कहा कि राजद ने इससे भी बड़ी आपदा देखी है। 

जदयू प्रवक्ता नीरज कुमार ने कहा कि सीएम नीतीश कुमार ने भ्रष्टाचार के खिलाफ आवाज बुलंद की है और उन्होंने कभी भ्रष्टाचार को लेकर किसी से भी समझौता नहीं किया है। उन्होंने कहा कि नीतीश कुमार कभी कुशासन की सरकार की पहल नहीं करेंगे। उन्होंने सुशासन की मिसाल पेश की है और इस जनम तो क्या अगले जनम में भी नीतीश इससे कोई समझौता नहीं करेंगे। 

इसका जवाब देते हुए राजद नेता शक्ति सिंह ने कहा कि बेवजह की बयानबाजी से जो गलतफहमियां पैदा की जा रही हैं वो ठीक नहीं है। एेसे समय में नेताओं को संयम, भाषा और मर्यादा का खयाल रखना चाहिए।  उन्होंने कहा कि महागठबंधन में सब ठीकठाक है। रघुवंश बाबू के बयान को दूसरे रूप में लेना ठीक नहीं है।

रघुवंश प्रसाद ने केंद्र सरकार पर भी लगाया आरोप

राजद नेता रघुवंश प्रसाद सिंह ने कहा कि पीएम नरेंद्र मोदी महात्मा गांधी के चश्मे को सलाम करते हैं और उनके पोते गोपाल कृष्ण गांधी का अपमान। यह कैसा पाखंड है। उन्होंने पीएम की विदेश नीति को फेल बताते हुए कहा कि देश के पहले पीएम नेहरू जी शीर्षासन करते थे, जबकि पीएम मोदी मेढ़कासन कर रहे हैं। चीन सीमा पर आंख दिखा रहा है और पीएम का 56 इंच का सीना कहीं दिख नहीं रहा। 

लालू प्रसाद व तेजस्वी यादव को फंसाया जा रहा है

 उन्होंने पीएम पर लालू प्रसाद और डिप्टी सीएम तेजस्वी यादव के खिलाफ साजिश रचने का आरोप लगाते हुए कहा कि सीबीआई, ईडी और आयकर के मार्फत उन्हें फंसाया जा रहा है। सबसे बड़ी परेशानी है कि महागठबंधन के भी लोग आजकल भाजपा की भाषा बोलने लगे हैं।

A world's first - This 10-year-old US kid with double hand transplant plays baseball flawlessly

New Delhi: Zion Harvey,10, from United States who underwent a double hand transplant two years ago can now play baseball using both hands.

World's first bilateral hand and forearm transplantation in Harvey that heralded a revolution in transplant medicine, has been declared a success, scientists confirmed in notes that have appeared in the prestigious journal The Lancet Child and Adolescent Health.

Led by L Scott Levin, Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Penn Medicine and Director of the Hand Transplantation Programme at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), a 40-member multi-disciplinary team of physicians, nurses and other staff participated in the operation.

During the surgery, the hands and forearms from the donor were attached by connecting bone, blood vessels, nerves, muscles, tendons, and skin.

Double hand transplantation is a complex procedure involving many surgical and non-surgical components.

First, the potential recipient must undergo extensive medical screenings and evaluations before surgery.

In this case, the patient's previous medical condition, following sepsis at an early age, factored into the decision to perform the transplant.

Separatist pioneer Geelani cautions against Army-run schools in valley; govt pummels comment

NEW DELHI: The Jammu and Kashmir vice president clergyman and senior BJP pioneer Nirmal Singh on Saturday lashed out at hardliner separatist pioneer Syed Ali Geelani for reprimanding Army goodwill schools of "inculcating" understudies in the state.
